About StarFlow

Calendar-Aware Scheduling for Vietnam

Events in Vietnam align with two parallel calendars: the cultural festival calendar and the civil airspace calendar. At StarFlow, we integrate both from the very first planning conversation — we never finalise a show date until the full permit pathway is confirmed.

How a Show Is Delivered

From Brief to Broadcast: Our 6-Step Vietnam Delivery Process

Every StarFlow project across Vietnam follows a disciplined, structured delivery workflow. The core process is consistent, while timelines are tailored to your event date, venue requirements and local regulatory review periods — we confirm full lead times with you before any public announcement.

  1. 1

    Brief & creative scope

We align on your event date, venue, audience and core narrative, then define feasible creative parameters within Vietnamese airspace rules and cultural context.

  2. 2

    Concept & 3D show simulation

Stakeholders review and approve the full show design — formations, music and story arc — via 3D simulation before any flight programming begins.

  3. 3

    Regulatory permit coordination

We progress CAAV registration and Ministry of National Defence flight-permit filings in parallel, with built-in venue and provincial liaison throughout the review schedule.

  4. 4

    Logistics, rehearsal & safety planning

Equipment, flight crews, on-site rehearsal protocols and exclusion-zone safety plans are finalised to match local venue requirements ahead of the flight window.

  5. 5

    Live show execution

Flight operations run on the night of the event, with contingency protocols and real-time airspace monitoring active throughout the performance.

  6. 6

    Project wrap-up & content handover

We safely demobilise on site, and deliver broadcast-grade footage and social-ready cut-downs as standard with every completed production.

How We Navigate Vietnam Regulations

Our Regulatory-First Permit Framework for Vietnam

We map the full Vietnamese regulatory permit chain before any show date is announced. The framework is set by the 2024 Law on People’s Air Defence and Decree 288/2025/ND-CP (effective 5 November 2025) — the same legislation that formally classifies formation flights and light shows as regulated operations. Every flight path is also planned to deconflict with the standard 8 km airport buffer zone.

CAAV

Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV)

Civil aviation regulator

CAAV governs all civil unmanned aircraft rules, including aircraft registration and airworthiness compliance. We prepare and submit all required registration paperwork and technical conformity documentation to complete the civil aviation layer before flight permit applications begin.

Ministry of National Defence

Ministry of National Defence

Flight permit issuing authority

As the governing body for Vietnam’s national airspace, the Ministry grants formal flight permits under Decree 288/2025. We file every show as a dedicated approved operation, with area, altitude, timing and flight coordinates fully specified upfront.

MST

Ministry of Science and Technology (MST)

Radio spectrum licensing

Command links, telemetry and video transmission all operate on regulated frequency bands certified by the Ministry. We coordinate full spectrum approval alongside flight permits, so the show is fully coordinated to transmit — not just to fly.

MPS

Ministry of Public Security (MPS)

Public order & event security

Public, VIP and government-scale events require formal security clearance. We prepare and submit the full public-order security package early in the planning process, to avoid delays to the flight window.

People’s Committee

Provincial / City People’s Committees

Local venue & event licensing

Venue no-objection certificates and local event permits are issued by provincial and city People’s Committees. We engage directly with relevant local authorities as part of our production planning, on a venue-by-venue basis.

Why Vietnam

Why Vietnam for Drone Light Shows

Vietnam’s fast-growing events and tourism market creates high-impact opportunities for drone light shows. StarFlow’s local regulatory expertise and production framework let you capture these moments reliably, from major festivals to premium resort destinations.

Festival calendar built for large-scale spectacle

Vietnam’s biggest public events align perfectly with night-time sky shows: Tết Nguyên Đán (Lunar New Year), Reunification Day (30 April), National Day (2 September) and the Mid-Autumn Festival all draw large outdoor audiences. Our calendar-aware scheduling is built around these peak seasonal moments to maximise impact.

Key venues across two metros and a resort coast

Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City deliver dense, iconic urban backdrops, while Ha Long Bay, Da Nang, Hoi An, Nha Trang and Phu Quoc offer premium waterfront and island stages. We manage end-to-end venue liaison across every region, with local operational knowledge built into every project.

Clear regulatory framework under Decree 288/2025

Decree 288/2025 (effective 5 November 2025) establishes Vietnam’s first comprehensive unmanned aircraft framework, explicitly classifying formation flights and light shows as regulated operations. Our regulatory-first approach leverages this defined approval pathway, with full visibility of timelines from project kickoff.

Predictable climate windows for reliable delivery

November to March brings dry, cool conditions across most of Vietnam, ideal for outdoor shows and peak audience attendance. Typhoon season (June–November across central and northern coasts) is mitigated through proactive scheduling and backup slot planning. We design every flight window around local weather patterns, not against them.

Fast-growing MICE and tourism demand

Vietnam’s tourism and MICE sectors continue to invest in stand-out night-time experiences. Cities and resorts are seeking repeatable, brandable formats — exactly the residency and repeat-show model StarFlow specialises in, for long-term venue partnerships.

Climate

Vietnam Monthly Flight Window & Planning Guide

Climate and seasonal weather define viable flight windows across Vietnam, more than technical limitations. We build every project schedule around this monthly climate framework, to maximise reliability and minimise weather risk.

MonthTemperatureSuitabilityWhat is happening
January 15–25 °C Excellent Cool, dry conditions across the north; peak tourist season. The most reliable all-round flight window.
February 17–27 °C Excellent Tết Nguyên Đán (Lunar New Year) typically falls this month; peak family and public gatherings.
March 20–30 °C Excellent Dry conditions nationwide; a strong month for outdoor productions and events.
April 24–33 °C Good Reunification Day (30 April) and Hung Kings' Festival; rising temperatures in the south.
May 27–35 °C Fair Wet season begins in the south; the central coast remains workable for outdoor shows.
June 28–36 °C Poor Typhoon season builds along the central and northern coast; outdoor production is limited.
July 28–37 °C Not recommended Peak heat and storm risk; only indoor or dawn slots are viable.
August 27–36 °C Not recommended Highest storm frequency of the year; projects are rerouted to indoor venues where possible.
September 26–34 °C Poor Early-month storm activity; National Day (2 September) requires dedicated weather contingency planning.
October 24–32 °C Fair Storm activity tapers; shoulder season returns across the north and central regions.
November 21–30 °C Excellent Dry season begins; the start of peak season for outdoor drone shows.
December 18–28 °C Excellent Cool, dry and festive; New Year show programs are booked months in advance.
Cultural Calendar

Key dates we programme around

Drone shows are anchored to local calendars. The dates below carry the highest demand and the tightest airspace.

  • Tết Nguyên Đán (Lunar New Year) The year’s largest national holiday, centred on family reunions and public celebrations. It is the highest-demand period for drone shows nationwide. 17 Feb 2026
  • Reunification Day A major national holiday marked by parades and public events, with the highest concentration of activity in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. 30 April
  • International Labour Day Typically paired with Reunification Day to form a multi-day holiday break, driving strong demand for public-event and brand-activation drone shows. 1 May
  • National Day Vietnam’s key state celebration, with official parades in Hanoi and nationwide public festivities. We pre-plan airspace coordination for this date well in advance. 2 September
  • Tết Trung Thu (Mid-Autumn Festival) The iconic children’s lantern festival, a natural cultural fit for themed drone light shows, particularly in heritage town venues. 25 Sep 2026
  • Hùng Kings Temple Festival A major ancestral commemoration and cultural event concentrated in the north, presenting dedicated cultural programming opportunities. 26 Apr 2026
  • New Year’s Eve A global focal point for riverfront and city-centre countdown events, with bookings typically confirmed months in advance. 31 December

Peak demand runs from November to March, when evening temperatures range from 15°C to 30°C and audience turnout is at its highest. Between June and August, typhoon season and daytime heat of 35–37°C rule out most outdoor production in the north and centre. For briefs in this period, we reprogram formats to dawn slots, indoor venues or southern-island locations, instead of declining projects.

Cultural Calibration

Content Guidelines for Vietnam Productions

All show content is reviewed against local cultural and political sensitivities before any flight programming begins. This is the standard checklist our creative team follows for every Vietnamese project.

Standard practice

  • We apply the national colour palette — red with a gold star — for state events and National Day programming, where appropriate.
  • All Vietnamese-language and bilingual EN-VI content is reviewed by a native Vietnamese speaker before being finalised.
  • We design all public-facing content to be family-first, aligned with Vietnam’s multi-generational audience culture, especially for Tết and Mid-Autumn Festival events.
  • Scheduling is built around the lunar calendar, with exact dates for Tết and Mid-Autumn Festival confirmed annually as they shift.
  • We lean into widely recognised local imagery for creative themes: Ha Long Bay, the Mekong Delta, lanterns, lotus flowers and iconic city skylines.
  • We secure written venue approval before using any copyright-cleared music or branded content in a show.

Never included

  • Politically sensitive symbols, maps or commentary, including references to disputed maritime boundaries.
  • Content that could be interpreted as disrespectful to Ho Chi Minh or national symbols and insignia.
  • Military or weapons-related imagery of any kind.
  • Religious figurative representation used in a way that could cause offence to local communities.
  • Revealing, suggestive or alcohol-focused choreography for public family-friendly events.
  • Unauthorised use of government or political party insignia.
Compliance

Permits, Insurance, Crowd & Safety Standards

We manage full end-to-end compliance for every production in Vietnam, spanning civil aviation registration, defence flight permits, and on-site safety protocols. This is the standard framework we follow on every project.

  • We plan every commercial drone show in Vietnam around mandatory CAAV registration and a Ministry of National Defence flight permit, in full alignment with Decree 288/2025.
  • All formation and light-show flights are filed as dedicated, specific operations, with area, altitude, timing and exact coordinates submitted upfront for approval.
  • We maintain all flights within the 120 m AGL civil ceiling; requests for higher altitudes are negotiated on a case-by-case basis with the relevant authority.
  • Every flight path is planned to fully avoid conflict with the 8 km airport buffer zone before any coordinates are finalised.
  • We coordinate all radio spectrum for command links and telemetry directly with the Ministry of Science and Technology.
  • Third-party aviation liability insurance, scaled to venue size, crowd numbers and aircraft fleet size, is included as standard with every project.
  • We prepare a documented crowd-safety and exclusion-zone plan, aligned with local authority standards, well in advance of each show day.
  • We arrange full NOTAM coordination and a witnessed on-site rehearsal before every flight window opens.
Budget

How We Price Drone Show Productions in Vietnam

Drone show pricing is not based on a fixed rate card. Two projects with the same aircraft count can vary significantly in cost, based on choreography complexity, venue requirements, regulatory permit scope and show frequency. Below is our standard pricing framework — share your event date, venue and audience size, and we will return a tailored cost estimate within one business day.

Scale & pricing matrix

Scale patternFormation sizeCost driversPermit & planning requirementsTypical projects in Vietnam
Intimate Compact reveal formation A small fleet still requires a full crew, on-site support and charging infrastructure — cost is driven by mobilisation, not aircraft count. Single venue + one venue No-Objection Certificate (NOC): the shortest approval pathway. Private celebrations, boutique brand reveals, short branded sequences
Mid-scale Medium formation Cost shifts to choreography hours and battery-charging cycles that enable longer continuous flight time. Venue NOC + provincial aviation authority airspace review. Corporate product launches, hotel activations, mid-size festival performances.
Landmark Large-scale formation Fleet size, charging infrastructure and multi-agency regulatory review all combine to define cost. Full CAAV registration, Ministry of National Defence flight permit, and provincial security review — the longest lead time in the process. National Day, New Year’s Eve, tourism campaigns and government flagship events.
Pyro-drone LED + pyrotechnic hybrid Adds a dedicated pyrotechnic safety case and separate fire-authority sign-off on top of standard aviation permits. Fire authority clearance added to standard aviation approvals. Events where a fireworks-style finale is the core creative objective.

Key cost drivers

  • Primary
    Fleet hardware & consumables

Airframes, replacement batteries and LED modules. Consumable costs scale with flight cycle count, not just total aircraft numbers.

  • Major
    Labour

Pilots, choreographers, ground crew and show directors. Labour cost is driven by total show runtime and the number of repeat performances.

  • Variable
    Logistics & transport

Transportation of aircraft, batteries and crew, plus on-site charging infrastructure setup. Costs vary by venue location and accessibility.

  • Variable
    Energy & charging

Generators or venue power supply, plus charging cycle time between flights for multi-night runs. Cost scales with event duration and site power availability.

  • Scaled
    Insurance & permits

Aviation liability coverage sized to match audience size and venue scale, plus all official fees: CAAV registration, Ministry of National Defence permits, and provincial NOC fees.

Technical

Technical Specifications We Design To

These are the baseline technical standards we apply to every production in Vietnam, engineered for clear visual impact, reliable operation and full regulatory compliance.

SpecificationValueWhy it matters
Standard altitude ceiling 120 m AGL (400 ft) The standard civil aviation baseline in Vietnam. Requests for higher altitudes are negotiated on a case-by-case basis with authorities and require extended review timelines.

Format

Drone Shows vs Fireworks vs Laser: A Comparison

We take an objective view across all three nighttime event formats to help you choose the right solution for your brief. In some cases, a drone show is not the best fit — and we will always be transparent about that.

FactorDrone showAlternatives
Brandability Very high — fully customizable logos, text and 3D formations tailored to brand guidelines. Fireworks: low customization for brand messaging. Laser: medium branding capability.
Fire & debris risk None — no pyrotechnic charges or explosive materials are used in any of our shows. Fireworks: significant fire and debris risk. Laser: no fire risk, but dedicated eye-safety zones are required.
Environmental impact Low — reusable hardware with zero physical fallout or emissions during flight. Fireworks: produces smoke, ash and debris. Laser: low environmental impact.
Noise Low — operation produces only a soft, low-level hum, suitable for noise-sensitive urban and resort venues. Fireworks: very loud, often restricted in dense city areas. Laser: completely silent.
Weather sensitivity High — wind and rain are the primary limiting factors for safe, clear operation. Fireworks: moderate weather sensitivity. Laser: moderate tolerance to variable conditions.
Repeatability High — the exact same show can run nightly, ideal for residency programs and multi-event schedules. Fireworks: single-use only; every show consumes all pyrotechnic materials. Laser: highly repeatable.
Daytime visibility Poor — drone LED displays require full darkness for optimal clarity and visual impact. Fireworks: possible with specialized daytime effects. Laser: poor visibility in bright daylight.
Typical duration 8–15 minutes per standard battery cycle; extendable via battery-swapping formats. Fireworks: 5–20 minutes, depending on scale. Laser: 10–30 minutes of continuous runtime.
Cities

Cities We Deliver Drone Shows in Vietnam

We plan and execute productions across all major Vietnamese cities, with dedicated local coordination for each market’s unique regulatory, venue and weather conditions.

Hanoi

The nation’s capital and political centre, with iconic venues including Hoàn Kiếm Lake, the Old Quarter, West Lake and the Ba Đình district. Hanoi hosts the country’s largest public gatherings for National Day and Tết Nguyên Đán. All flight paths near central districts are carefully coordinated with Noi Bai International Airport’s 8 km buffer zone, and we work directly with the Hanoi People’s Committee and relevant security authorities as part of our standard planning process.

Ho Chi Minh City

The southern economic hub, formerly Saigon, anchored by the Saigon River, District 1 skyline, Landmark 81 and the Thu Thiem east bank. As the commercial engine of Vietnam, it has the busiest event calendar in the south. Tan Son Nhat International Airport’s 8 km buffer defines all central flight paths, and we coordinate with key venue owners including Saigon Centre and major resort groups on flagship dates as part of our planning process.

Da Nang

The central coast’s core event hub, featuring the Han River, Dragon Bridge, My Khe Beach and the Ba Na Hills. Da Nang blends high beach-resort demand with easy access to heritage neighbours Hoi An and Hue. The central coast is first to face typhoon season, so we build all Da Nang schedules with weather contingency windows and flexible booking terms as standard.

Additional coverage
Ha Long Bay, Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, Hue, Sa Pa and the wider Mekong Delta are all covered under our unified national production framework. Refer to the regional breakdown above for details on each location’s specific requirements and conditions.

Success Stories

Case Example: How a Project Takes Shape

Illustrative scenario based on a typical Vietnam tourism brief — not a record of past performance.

Ha Long Bay Tourism Spectacular — Seasonal Drone Series

Scale: 150-drone fleet, 4 exclusive evening performances

Project Brief

For a high-profile waterfront destination, the project requires custom brand-aligned drone sequences for tourists, media and industry guests, integrated into the regional tourism experience with zero disruption to cruise and ferry traffic.

Key Challenges

  1. Aligning flight paths with Van Don and Cat Bi airport approach corridors, while keeping the bay itself as the central visual stage.
  2. Coordinating Ministry of National Defence flight-permit filing alongside provincial tourism and security reviews, all within a tight launch timeline.
  3. Coastal salt-humidity conditions that accelerate hardware wear and reduce operational reliability.
  4. Delivering pixel-perfect destination-themed marks and sequences under variable live weather conditions.

Our Approach

  1. Airspace-first site planning: We model the 8 km airport buffer zones first, then position launch and viewing corridors entirely within the safe operational zone.
  2. Unified filing package: CAAV registration, defence flight permit, and provincial NOC are progressed as a single coordinated submission, rather than three separate sequential steps.
  3. Industrial-grade salt-fog protected hardware: An on-site charging and inspection station maintains the fleet in mission-ready condition throughout the entire run of shows.
  4. Proprietary swarm choreography engine: Maintains sub-metre positioning accuracy for frames that are critical to the destination’s brand identity.

Project Outcomes

  • A consolidated filing package designed to achieve first-cycle approval from both CAAV and defence authorities.
  • A hardware and charging plan scaled and optimised for four consecutive nights of operation.
  • A dedicated safety and exclusion-zone plan tailored to the bay’s active cruise and ferry traffic.
  • Full destination-themed sequences signed off through a structured choreography review loop.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Questions procurement teams and event directors ask us most often about drone shows in Vietnam.

How much does a drone show cost in Vietnam?
Cost is built from fleet size, choreography complexity, venue requirements, permit scope and show frequency — there is no standard list price, as two projects with the same aircraft count can differ significantly. Peak dates like National Day, Tết Nguyên Đán and major brand launches carry a premium. Share your event date, venue and audience size, and we will return a scoped budget range within one business day.
Do I need official approval for every drone show in Vietnam?
Yes. Under Decree 288/2025/ND-CP (effective 5 November 2025), every commercial drone show requires CAAV civil registration and a flight permit from the Ministry of National Defence, with formation and light shows explicitly named as regulated operations. We prepare and submit all required filings — including radio-spectrum clearance and venue NOCs — as one single coordinated package.
Can a foreign drone company operate in Vietnam directly?
Vietnam requires all foreign drone operations to be authorised through a Vietnamese-registered entity or a local sponsor acting as operator of record. We engage vetted local partners from the earliest planning stage for every project, so all CAAV registration and defence flight-permit filings are processed through the correct entity rather than becoming your problem mid-project.
How early should we book for National Day (2 September) or Tết?
We recommend booking 12–20 weeks in advance. National Day and Tết Nguyên Đán are the two largest public-gathering dates on the Vietnamese calendar, and venues near Hanoi’s Noi Bai or Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat — both inside the 8 km airport buffer — typically lock up 8+ weeks ahead. We secure the flight window and airspace approach together as early as possible.
Which Vietnamese cities and venues work best for drone shows?
Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City offer dense, iconic urban backdrops; Ha Long Bay, Da Nang, Hoi An, Nha Trang and Phu Quoc each provide stunning waterfront and island stages. Every location has its own airport-buffer rules and provincial licensing requirements, so we always propose the smallest fleet that achieves your creative goal, and plan flight paths entirely within safe zones from the very first planning call.
How do you handle the lunar calendar — Tết and Mid-Autumn?
Vietnam operates on both solar and lunar calendars. Tết Nguyên Đán shifts roughly 10 days earlier each year (17 February in 2026), and the Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month. We integrate lunar date shifts into our annual planning, and we only confirm your event window during scoping once the permit pathway can be mapped — we never lock in dates that cannot be supported by official approvals.
What about the typhoon season — can you still fly?
We avoid peak typhoon months for the central and northern coast (roughly June to November) or reprogram projects accordingly. We can shift formats to dawn slots, indoor venues, or southern-island locations such as Phu Quoc, and we always scope flight windows around weather patterns rather than against them. Outdoor productions across the north and centre are largely paused during peak storm months.
Do you handle insurance and crowd safety?
Yes. We arrange third-party aviation liability coverage tailored to venue size, crowd numbers and aircraft count for every project, and we deliver a documented crowd-safety and exclusion-zone plan that meets all local-authority standards before any flight. NOTAM coordination and a witnessed on-site rehearsal are standard for every event before the flight window opens.
Can you display Vietnamese text, our logo and brand marks?
Yes. We animate Vietnamese and Latin typography, corporate logos, and 3D objects with full brand alignment. All Vietnamese script is reviewed by a native Vietnamese speaker before programming, since typography errors at 200 metres cannot be corrected mid-flight. Every formation is simulated in full 3D so you can approve the choreography on screen before any aircraft are deployed.
Drone show or fireworks for a Vietnam event?
Drone shows are silent, low-debris, reusable and fully customisable — they align with Vietnam’s tourism and sustainability goals, and work seamlessly in urban and heritage venues where fireworks are restricted or impractical. Many landmark events pair both formats for a finale. We will always give you an honest assessment of which format best suits your venue, audience and permit situation, rather than pushing one solution.
